Avon claims 90 per cent of its boutiques have qualified to act as service centres under the government's regulations, indicating that boutique owners want to be involved in direct selling, said SK Kao, general manager of Avon China.

"China's Direct Selling Administration Ordinance gives very clear guidance for our practices," said Kao.

Under the new model, the beauty boutiques now offer after-sales services, such as order collection, product return, credit, trials and billing assistance for sales promoters, as well as beauty consultation services for customers, while continuing to sell products over the counter.

"Our base of almost 5,700 beauty boutiques provides one of the largest service coverage networks in China, and is at the core of our direct-selling model," said Kao.

Avon's sales promoters provide customers with a one-on-one personal service that Avon is recognized for all over the world.

"Avon's direct-selling model brings the best features of retail and single-level direct-selling together, we believe this partnership will enable Avon to serve more and more women throughout China with our high-quality beauty products," Kao said.

Avon is a leading global beauty company, with over US$8 billion in annual revenue.

The company is the world's largest direct seller and markets products in well over 100 countries through more than 5 million independent sales representatives.
