On July 12th the Ministry of Commerce of China released the names of the Top 500 Importers & Exporters and the Top 200 Exporters in China.

China Petrochemical International Co. Ltd ranks the first on the Top 500 Importers & Exporters list with imports & exports amounting to US$34.33 billion in 2005. Hongfujin Precision Industry (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd was placed first on the Top 200 Exporters list with US$14.47 billion worth of exports

Total imports & exports from the Top 500 Importers & Exporters is up 0.4 percent last year to reach US$604.75 billion, accounting for 42.6 percent of the total export volume nationwide. Exports from the Top 200 Exporters have increased by 0.5 percent to reach US$236.89 billion, accounting for 31.1 percent of the country's exports.

The average imports & exports from the Top 500 Importers & Exporters rose from US$970 million in 2004 to US$1.21 billion in 2005. The average exports from the Top 200 Exporters jumped from US$910 million to US$1.18 billion. The top 10 importers and exporters from the Top 500 Importers & Exporters are mainly in the fields of energy, mechanics, electronics, and high-tech products. The top 10 exporters of the Top 200 Exporters primarily produce mechanics, electronics and high-tech products.

The majority of the listed importers and exporters, of which over 60 percent are foreign-invested enterprises, are located in the coastal areas of east China. Only 18 from the Top 500 Importers & Exporters and four from the Top 200 Exporters are from central and western areas, accounting for 3.6 percent and 2 percent respectively.
