On the top 100 listed private enterprises of 2006 unveiled on June 17, China Minsheng Banking, Midea, and GOME Appliance were crowned the top three.

The statistics show that the total tax payment of the top 100 amounts to 16.584 billion yuan, and their payrolls hits 21.307 billion yuan.

The evaluation result this time indicates that the threshold to the Top 100 was once again dramatically raised from 1.1 billion yuan in 2005 to 1.889 yuan this year in terms of operating revenue, an increase of 71.7%. The assessment focused on the well-performed private enterprises, avoiding putting the entrepreneurs with huge wealth under the spot light.

Zhang Weijiong, Vice President of China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) pointed out that in 2005 there were 568 Chinese private enterprise listed home and abroad, with a gross turnover of 666 billion yuan, an average increase of 24.9% and higher than the 19.7 percent revenue growth of state-owned enterprises.

But their average returns on net assets stood at 6.41%, lower than the ratio of 9.02% of their state-owned peers. In addition, the private enterprises still contributed less than the state-owned ones. Besides, the enterprises listed overseas run much more efficiently than home listed ones.

The assessment also resulted to four lists for market capitalization, growth, profitability, and social contribution specifically. Minsheng ranks once again the top of the lists of market value and social contribution.
