Co-op with China vital for Japan's firms (Chinanews.cn) Updated: 2006-06-01 14:15
Japanese enterprises' China dependency ratio is on the rise. Many Japanese
corporations told Chinese Commerce Minister Bo Xilai during his current visit in
Japan that their companies' development cannot be separated from their
cooperation with China and they will continue to expand their businesses in
China.
During his visit, Bo Xilai held talks with some small and medium-sized
Japanese enterprises. The 14 companies attending the talks all showed great
interest in the huge Chinese market and hoped to expand cooperation with
China.
A survey shows that over 70% of Japanese enterprises are quite satisfied with
their operations in China and more than 60% of them hope to increase their
investment in China.
According to Japanese statistics, there were 3,557 Japanese enterprises in
China in the year 2004, accounting for 20% of Japan's overseas enterprises. The
18.5 trillion yen revenue in China accounted for 11% of Japan's aggregate
overseas income. More than 80% of Japanese enterprises are making a profit in
China.
Bo Xilai stated that China's investment environment is improving. The quality
of its labor force has been evidently elevated and the protection of
intellectual property rights has been reinforced. These factors provide a better
environment for Japan's small and medium-sized enterprises to seek cooperation
in China. Bo promised that China will continue to facilitate Sino-Japan
cooperation. (For more biz stories, please visit Industry Updates)
