Approved as state-level zone in February 2000, Hefei Economic and Technological Development Area (HETA) situated in the south of Hefei and 8 kilometers away from the downtown.
 
Climate
Hefei is in the wet. It enjoys mild sub-tropical maritime monsoon zone with a mild climate and four distinct seasons. Its with an annual mean average temperature of 15 centigrade, and yearly rainfall of 985.4 millimeters.

Communication and Transportation
The HETA is situated in the south of Hefei, about 8 kilometers km to the north away from the downtown area. To the east lies the Luogang International Airport and the Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway, to its west there is the Hefei-Jiujiang Railway, in the north it is connected with the Hefei-Nanjing Highway, and south of the city there are watercourses leading on to the Changjiang River. The HETA is about 450 kilometers km south to Shanghai, 180 kilometers to Nanjing, and 400 kilometers. It lies in an important area that leads to 8 major provinces such as Liaoning, etc.

Human Resources
In Hefei there are more than 30 colleges and universities, over 50 secondary polytechnic schools, and 190 research institutes. There are about 200,000 scientists, engineers, technicians and other professionals, and about 300,000 skilled workers in these municipal organizations. And the university town being built in the HETA will facilitate the supply of trained labor to its own development.

Industrial Structure
Four core major industries have come into shape, including the household appliances industry, the chemicals industry, the automobile and construction machinery industry and the cereal grain and processing industry.

Investment Priorities
The HETA encourages investment on the following sectors: automobiles, construction machinery and accessories; household appliances and components; information electronics; and labor-intensive industries.
