Pegasus fondant artwork ushers in Year of the Horse in Shanghai

A 4-meter-tall fondant artwork in the shape of Pegasus debuts on Jan 30, 2026, in Shanghai, blending traditional Chinese culture, conventional craftsmanship, modern commerce and art, reflecting the city's efforts to build an international cultural metropolis. "The image of Pegasus was borrowed from traditional Chinese culture, and in order to attract the young generation, we also blended in anime elements to make the artwork equally innovative and stylish," Zhou explained during a ceremony held on Friday to celebrate the debut of the fondant horse, alongside ten other works by him.

Cai Daying, chairman of the China National Arts & Crafts Society, praised the exhibition as a model of the integration of traditional craftsmanship and modern art, saying the show has explicated the vitality of fondant artworks through innovation.
