Yan'an, a city in Northwest China, served as a beacon of hope for many young Chinese during World War II. Decades after the victory, a question arises to us: What are the children of Yan'an like today?

At a historic cave site, we met a young local guide named Doudou. The 11-year-old girl captivated us—and tens of thousands online—with her extensive knowledge of history, which belies her age.
