Yan'an Revisited Ep4: Harvesting hope in Nanniwan
Earlier this year, to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, China Daily website revisited the revolutionary heartland of Nanniwan in Yan'an, Shaanxi province. Through the moving account of Zhang Sanquan, a retired official from the Yan'an Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the story of the Eighth Route Army's 359th Brigade unfolded — a vivid chapter in Nanniwan's wartime large-scale production campaign.
Amid extreme material shortages, the military and civilians of Yan'an embodied the revolutionary spirit of "self-reliance for ample food and clothing", surviving in the face of extreme hardship and helping lay the economic foundations for the revolutionary base.
Watch the video to revisit some of the heroism displayed in the Chinese people's resistance.
