Yan'an Revisited Ep3: Empowerment through art
In 1938, the Lu Xun Academy of Arts and Literature was established in Yan'an, becoming an important base for cultivating artistic talent during the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
The teachers and students at the academy drew inspiration from local folk songs and the lives of laborers, creating many classic works. For instance, Xian Xinghai completed the famed Yellow River Cantata in just one week. Work like this was a significant factor in lifting the morale of the Chinese people.
China Daily Website revisited this site of the academy, founded during the tumultuous war years, to hear from the director of Luyi Choir of Yan'an city about how, despite being outmatched in weaponry by the Japanese invaders, arts and literature transformed into an invisible weapon, infusing immense power into ultimate victory.
