In what ways can handicraft traditions be better preserved and revived? A variety of explorations to answer this question are on display at Dialogue: The Construction of Tradition and Modernity, an exhibition in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.
The exhibition runs until Jan 15 and gathers dozens of contemporary artists who celebrate traditional crafts and mediums by rendering them experimental through paintings, installations and digital art. The works are on show at the Jiangsu Arts and Crafts Museum and the Jiangsu Museum of Modern Art.
Li Hongbo, the exhibition's curator and a paper artist and professor at Jilin Normal University, says the exhibition aims to show how traditions can be better integrated into today's material and cultural lives.
