Wang Yi meets Arab League secretary-general
China is ready to work with the Arab League to ensure the second China-Arab States Summit enhances strategic mutual trust, broadens mutually beneficial cooperation and builds a higher-level China-Arab community with a shared future, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday.
Wang made the remarks in Beijing during a meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit.
Next year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Arab countries. The second China-Arab States Summit, scheduled to be held in China next year, will become another milestone in the history of Chinese-Arab relations, Wang said.
Wang noted that China-Arab relations have entered the best period in history.
China never interferes in the internal affairs of other countries and never seeks geopolitical rivalry, Wang said, adding that Chinese-Arab cooperation aims at common development, shared prosperity and helping all countries achieve modernization.
Aboul-Gheit said the Arab League attaches great importance to developing relations with China, supports the China-proposed four major global initiatives, and is ready to work with Beijing to make solid preparations for next year's summit.
On the Palestinian question, Wang said that any post-conflict arrangement for Gaza should embody the fundamental principle of "the Palestinians governing Palestine", and must remain firmly align with the two-state solution objective, which is essential for securing lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
China will continue to uphold fairness and justice on the international stage, Wang said, voicing the country's unwavering support for restoring the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people and for advancing and realizing the two-state solution.
Aboul-Gheit told Wang that the Arab League appreciates China's commitment to fairness and justice on the Palestinian question and looks forward to China continuing to play a constructive role.
He added that the Arab side commends China's adherence to multilateralism and is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in multilateral fields to jointly promote world peace and stability.
