"Traditional festivals are the cultural genes and spiritual bond of the Chinese nation. Promoting their creative transformation and innovative development in contemporary society is an important direction for cultural work in the new era," Wei Suwen, vice-president of the China Folk Literature and Art Association, emphasized during the academic symposium held on Oct 30 at Shantou University.

Wei said the "Our Festivals" campaign launched by his association is committed to exploring the cultural connotations of traditional festivals, promoting their integration with modern life, encouraging development of traditional custom, fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, and enhancing the sense of identity and cohesion of the Chinese nation.
