High-rise apartment building in New York partially collapses, no injuries reported

NEW YORK -- A high-rise apartment building in New York City partially collapsed Wednesday, local authorities said. No injuries were immediately reported.
The city's fire department said on social media that it was responding to a partial building collapse in the Bronx area of New York. A photo it posted shows a corner of the 20-story public housing building was damaged from the ground floor to the roof.
The department received a report of a gas explosion that caused an incinerator shaft in the building to collapse, according to The Associated Press.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, authorities said. A search-and-rescue mission is underway.
The city's housing authority is investigating the cause of the event and "the extent of any damage beyond the reported exterior damage to the chimney," it said in a statement.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he was monitoring the situation closely.
"We are getting a full assessment from first responders and will continue to provide updates. Please avoid the area for your safety," he wrote on social media platform X.
