Explosions leave 2 dead in Munich, spark temporary closure of Oktoberfest

BERLIN -- Explosions in Munich's Lerchenau district early Wednesday left two people dead and two others injured, police said.
A single-family house and a van parked outside caught fire. The suspect, a 57-year-old man, was found dead. His father also died, while his mother was moderately injured and his daughter slightly injured, according to local media reports.
Police said initial findings indicate a family dispute as the cause. "Our current understanding is that we are investigating a family dispute," a police spokesperson said.
During the investigation, officers found a letter written by the suspect in a mailbox, in which he threatened bomb attacks against Oktoberfest. The discovery led to a temporary closure of the festival, which resumed at 17:30 local time.
