Massive new dual-fuel car truck carrier gets Guangzhou naming ceremony


A new dual-fuel pure car truck carrier (PCTC) with a capacity of 8,600 vehicles was named Glovis Titan in a ceremony held at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in the capital of Guangdong province on Tuesday.
The 200-meter-long vessel, with a molded width of 38 meters, can reach a speed of 19 knots, equivalent to more than 35 kilometers per hour. It is designed to reach a draft of 9.2 meters.
According to a statement released by GSI, Glovis Titan is equipped with advanced intelligent ship systems that enable smart management of ship navigation, engine room and cargo, improving ship operational efficiency and safety.
The vessel has an LNG/fuel dual fuel propulsion system and meets the Tier III emission standards of the International Maritime Organization. According to the statement, it is environmentally friendly, energy efficient, safe and reliable.
Glovis Titan adopts multiple energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies, such as hull line optimization, propeller fairing and a main engine exhaust heat recovery system, the statement added.
The vessel, built by GSI in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading (CSTC) for South Korea's Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), will be operated by Hyundai Glovis.
Glovis Titan represents another crucial accomplishment for GSI in embodying the principles of green development and driving the transformation and enhancement of the shipbuilding sector, the statement read.
Glovis Titan will leave Guangzhou for South Korea next week, two months ahead of schedule.
Located on Longxue Island at the mouth of the Pearl River in the Nansha district of Guangzhou, GSI, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp, has received almost 40 orders for construction of PCTCs to date.
Of these, 17 7,000-unit PCTCs and two 8,600-unit models have been delivered for use.
