Guangdong and Macao launch cross-border medical transfer services

The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Macao Special Administrative Region jointly held a signing ceremony for an administrative cooperation memorandum on 'Hospital-to-Hospital' cross-border transfer services and the awarding ceremony for designated hospitals, further accelerating the integrated development of people's livelihood between the two sides.
Nie Xinping, deputy director of the zone's executive committee, and Leong Man-cheong, commissioner general of the Unitary Police Service, signed the MOU representing both sides in Hengqin, Guangdong province, on Wednesday.
This marks the realization of a direct hospital-linkage model for cross-border medical services between Hengqin and Macao, providing residents with more efficient and safer emergency medical transfer services.
According to the MOU, by establishing an efficient and secure cross-border transfer mechanism, Hengqin and Macao will ensure that patients assessed by designated hospitals of both sides can be transferred quickly and smoothly, improving the efficiency of medical treatment.
Nie said the signing of the MOU will help further improve the level of medical treatment on both sides and ensure the safety and health of local residents.
Leong added that the MOU represents another important milestone in the integrated development between Hengqin and Macao.
Feng Fangdan, director of the Bureau of Livelihood Affairs with the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone, awarded the plaque to the Centro Hospitalar Conde de Sao Januario of Macao, making it one of the first two designated medical institutions for point-to-point cross-border transfer.
Hengqin Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University is the other designated hospital for the service.
