Beijing issues highest-level rainstorm alert as storms continue

Beijing renewed its rainstorm alert to the highest level at noon on Monday as heavy downpours continued across the city.

The heavy rainstorms, ongoing for several days across the capital, have triggered emergency response mechanisms in multiple districts.

Beijing has mobilized emergency teams, vehicles, and communication systems and deployed specialized equipment, including drones, amphibious vehicles, and mobile charging stations.

Satellite phones have been deployed across the city to ensure uninterrupted contact with villages affected by power and network outages, especially in the mountainous Miyun and Yanqing districts.

As of Sunday evening, 3,065 residents in 18 townships in Miyun district and 3,338 residents in Pinggu have been relocated, Beijing News reported. No casualties have been reported as of Monday morning.

Torrential rainfall also hit Fuping county in Baoding city, Hebei province, leaving two people dead and two others missing, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The National Commission for Disaster Reduction activated a Level IV emergency relief response on Monday and dispatched a working team to the province to assess the damage and support local disaster relief efforts.
