Prosecutor seeks arrest warrant for ex-president

South Korea's special prosecutor asked a court on Tuesday to issue an arrest warrant for former president Yoon Suk-yeol, an investigator said, as a probe intensified over the ousted leader's botched bid to impose martial law. Yoon, who is already facing a criminal trial on insurrection charges for leading the martial law declaration, was arrested in January after resisting authorities trying to take him into custody, but was released after 52 days on technical grounds. The new warrant is on a charge of obstruction, a senior member of the special prosecutor's team of investigators said.

WhatsApp banned on House staffers' devices

Meta Platforms' WhatsApp messaging service has been banned on the devices of all US House of Representatives staffers, according to a memo sent out on Monday. The notice said the "Office of Cybersecurity has deemed WhatsApp a high risk to users due to the lack of transparency in how it protects user data, absence of stored data encryption, and potential security risks involved with its use". Meta disagreed with the move "in the strongest possible terms," a company spokesperson said, noting that the platform provides a higher level of security than the other approved apps.
