Processing of visas for Harvard to resume

The US State Department on Friday night instructed consulates worldwide to resume processing of visa applications for international students admitted to Harvard University, reversing guidance issued a day earlier ordering such requests to be rejected, The Washington Post reported. The report cites a cable sent by the department, which came after a US federal judge on Thursday temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's visa ban on Harvard's foreign students.

ITALY

Voting on citizenship, workers' rights held

Italians vote on Sunday and Monday in a referendum on easing citizenship rules and strengthening labor laws, with Giorgia Meloni's government opposing both changes. A non-EU adult resident without marriage or blood ties to Italy must currently live in the country for 10 years before they can apply for citizenship — a process which can then take years. The referendum proposal would cut this to five years.

IRAN

Ban on dog walking to cover more cities

Iranian authorities have expanded a ban on walking dogs in public to multiple cities nationwide, citing public health, social order and safety concerns, domestic media reported on Sunday. The ban, which echoes a 2019 police directive that barred walking dogs in Teheran, was expanded to Ilam city in the west on Sunday, according to reports. At least 17 other cities introduced similar bans in recent days.
