Japan pledges to ensure quality, safety of aquatic products exported to China

Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Japan has pledged to implement credible and visible measures to ensure the quality and safety of its aquatic products exported to China and fully comply with Chinese regulatory requirements and food safety standards.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks after the General Administration of Customs held on Wednesday a new round of technical exchanges with the Japanese side in Beijing on the safety of Japanese aquatic products.
Lin told a daily news briefing that substantial progress has been made during the talks.
Since this year, China and Japan have engaged in consultations regarding the safety of Japanese aquatic products based on the ongoing international monitoring of the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water discharge and China's independent sampling results showing no abnormalities, Lin told reporters.
Noting the Chinese government has always prioritized people's well-being and firmly safeguards public food safety, Lin said relevant authorities will rigorously study Japan's request to resume aquatic product exports to China by adhering to scientific principles, domestic regulations, and international trade rules.
