An international exhibition showcasing traditional Chinese costume culture concluded recently in three European nations, promoting cultural exchanges and captivating audiences with the beauty of patterns and Chinese characters.
Touring around the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Croatia from May 11 to 19, the exhibition was led by Donghua University in Shanghai and hosted by China's Center for Language Education and Cooperation.
Themed "The Beauty of Patterns and Chinese Character", the exhibition took a unique approach featuring the application of artificial intelligence and augmented reality technologies, aiming to showcase the beauty of ancient Chinese characters, patterns, etiquette and philosophy that embodied in traditional Chinese costumes in diverse dynasties.
At the exhibition, the beauty of oracle bone inscriptions and the wisdom contained in the intangible cultural heritage of jacquard are dialogued across time and space with the flamboyance of Baroque designs and the sharpness of Gothic aesthetics.
Beyond the costume culture, it also comprehensively displayed the profound charm of traditional Chinese culture and Oriental art in the development of Chinese civilization, with nearly 100 exhibits including Chinese calligraphy, folk costumes and creative products inspired by intangible cultural heritages.
"The exhibition is not only a display of traditional skills, but also an international extension of Donghua University's concept of 'art-industry crossover'. We aim to revitalize cultural heritage through digital methods and promote cross-cultural exchanges with the design language. We see it as a vivid lesson to cultivate talents with sustainable innovation in design," said Li Hui, professor at Donghua University.
