Ancient music scores in Hami theatrical production
The dance drama narrates a love story between a young woman from Yizhou and a youth from Chang'an, the ancient capital. Through music, dance and poetry, it portrays the trajectory of Yizhou music from its discovery to its widespread dissemination.
To integrate the essence of Yizhou music into the production, the creative team, under the guidance of chief director Xin Junjie, spent substantial time researching the art form. The choreography team, in particular, continuously experimented with novel forms of expression to authentically convey the spirit of Yizhou music through movement, Xin said.
Following its premiere in Hami in December, the production embarked on a nationwide tour. The Beijing performances promise to deliver a captivating blend of music and dance just in time for the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival.
