China's Central Military Commission decided to establish three new military academies, respectively in Hefei, Wuhan and Chongqing, a defense spokesman announced on Thursday.

At an online news conference, Ministry of National Defense spokesman Jiang Bin announced that the CMC recently decided to reorganize and establish three institutions: the university of branch arms of the People's Liberation Army's Ground Force, the engineering university of the PLA's Information Support Force, and the engineering university of the PLA's Joint Logistic Support Force.

The main campuses of these three newly established universities are located in Hefei, Anhui province, Wuhan, Hubei province, and Chongqing municipality.

These three new universities are each set up on the basis of several existing local military academies across China, according to the spokesman.

This decision aims to adapt to the restructuring of military branches and the needs of military talent development, Jiang said.

The official said that all three institutions are higher education establishments that will enroll regular high school graduates from the general public. Details regarding the majors offered and the number of students to be admitted will be released in due course in line with the annual enrollment plan, Jiang added.
