"The People's Republic of China is the place I want to be. Throughout my many years here, I have always felt so free," sang Mark Levine, a US professor at the Minzu University of China, in a recent interview with China Daily.

These lyrics show his passion and love for China, the country where he has been living for 20 years.

"I've seen new houses and apartments standing right next to the old farmhouses that people used to live in," Levine said, talking about his traveling experiences in China's countryside. He attributed these changes to China's eradication of absolute poverty a few years ago.

Levine has lectured at nearly 80 universities in China. "So many universities have built new campuses," he said, meaning the universities where he delivered lectures 10 years ago are now completely different. "When you have new schools, that means you have more opportunities for students," he added.

"I'm very, very focused in terms of trying to bridge whatever kind of gap exists between my country, the United States, and my adopted country, China," Levine said.
