Xi extends condolences over passing of Laos' former president

President Xi Jinping sent a message to Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith on Wednesday, extending his deep condolences over the passing of Laos' former president Khamtay Siphandone and his sincere sympathy to his family.

In the message to Thongloun, who is also general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, described Khamtay as a steadfast communist, a prominent leader of the older generation of the Lao party and state, and a close comrade and friend of the CPC and the Chinese people.

He made significant contributions to the development of relations between the two parties and two countries, Xi said, adding that the CPC, the Chinese government and the Chinese people will cherish the memory of Khamtay forever.

Noting that China and Laos are good neighbors, friends, comrades and partners, Xi expressed China's willingness to work with Laos to advance the building of a community with a shared future and achieve greater development in their respective socialist causes.

Khamtay passed away at the age of 102 at 10:30 pm local time on Wednesday, according to the LPRP Central Committee.

Messages mark 30 years of diplomatic ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina

President Xi Jinping and rotating Chairperson of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zeljka Cvijanovic exchanged congratulations on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries on Thursday.

In his congratulatory message, Xi hailed the development of bilateral ties in the past 30 years, saying that both countries have upheld the principles of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit, with their political mutual trust deepened and pragmatic cooperation yielding fruitful results.

The two countries have set an example of friendly coexistence and mutual development between big and small countries with different historical backgrounds and different social systems, he said.

Noting that he attaches great importance to the development of China's relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Xi expressed his willingness to work together with Cvijanovic to use the 30th anniversary as a new starting point to continue the traditional friendship and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation to bring the countries' ties to a new stage and deliver more benefits to the people of both countries.

Cvijanovic said that her country is willing to further deepen its relations with China to achieve common prosperity.
