Ex-national legislator expelled from CPC
Du Yubo, a former national legislator, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for seriously violating Party disciplines, an official statement said on Sunday. The decision followed an investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee. Du, who was vice-chairman of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of the 13th National People's Congress, was found to have obstructed the investigation, violated the Party's frugality rules and traded power for money, the statement read. Du was also found to have taken advantage of his various positions to seek benefits for others in establishing private higher education institutions and project contracting. In return, he accepted large amounts of money and valuables, the statement added.
Qomolangma area reopens after quake
The Mount Qomolangma scenic area reopened to the public on Saturday after a temporary closure following a 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Dingri county, Xizang autonomous region, on Jan 7. The temblor killed 126 people in Dingri, home to the northern base camp of the world's highest peak, Mount Qomolangma, also known as Mount Everest in the West. The scenic area was closed on the same day. As of Feb 28, Mount Qomolangma has not been affected by the quake, with no obvious icefalls, avalanches or geological changes observed, according to Ma Weiqiang, director of the Mount Qomolangma Atmosphere and Environment Comprehensive Observation and Research Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
National public data platform put into use
China's national platform for public data resource registration was put into service on Saturday, according to the National Data Administration. The platform, accessible at https://sjdj.nda.gov.cn, has officially opened for registration, marking a significant step forward in the market-oriented reform of data resource allocation. On the first day of registration, the platform introduced a range of national public data categories, including medical insurance, meteorology and natural resources. Several provincial-level platforms for public data resource registration were also launched on the same day and successfully integrated with the national platform.
