Shanghai's writers and artists federation re-elects chairwoman
The ninth congress of the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles elected new members of the presidium on Tuesday. Xi Meijuan, a 70-year-old actress, was re-elected as chairwoman of the federation.
Born in Shanghai in 1955, Xi has been active in film and theater for over 40 years since graduating from the Shanghai Theatre Academy, winning a series of national awards.
At the congress, Xi described the federation as "a platform for unity, liaison and coordination that serves the city's diverse creative community, and a home of the heart for several generations of artists in Shanghai."
She emphasized that her current core mission is "to support young artists and promote outstanding young Chinese artists and their works to global audiences," believing that this will help promote Chinese culture worldwide.
