6 killed in Guangdong after bus catches fire
Six people were killed and several others injured after a bus caught fire on Wednesday morning in Guangdong province, local authorities said. The incident occurred when the bus suddenly burst into flames at around 9:40 am on the 813 county highway in Qiashui township in Huaiji county, part of Zhaoqing city, according to the people's government of Huaiji. The injured have been sent to hospital for treatment and are currently in stable condition. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
PLA conducts patrol in South China Sea
The Chinese People's Liberation Army conducted a routine patrol in the South China Sea on Wednesday, a spokesman said while accusing the Philippines of undermining peace and stability in the region. The PLA Southern Theater Command spokesman Tian Junli announced the action in a statement on Wednesday. He said that the Philippines has repeatedly colluded with extraterritorial countries to organize so-called joint patrols recently, attempting to cover up its illegal infringement on China's maritime rights and interests.
Industries exec faces corruption probe
Liu Weidong, deputy general manager at China South Industries Group Corp, is being investigated for corruption on accusations that he seriously violated disciplinary regulations and national laws. His case is now being investigated by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Commission of Supervision, according to a brief news release published by the top anti-corruption authorities. Liu, 58, is a native of Zigui, Hubei province. He has become the latest executive in China's defense industry to be investigated for alleged violations of regulations and laws.
