BEIJING -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday presided over a symposium to hear opinions and suggestions on a draft government work report.

Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, listened to opinions and suggestions from the central committees of non-CPC political parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) and personages without party affiliation.

The past year has been extraordinary for China's development, with Chinese modernization taking new and solid steps forward, according to representatives at the symposium.

Regarding this year's government work, they offered suggestions on further strengthening macroeconomic regulation, promoting sci-tech innovation, deepening reform and opening-up, and safeguarding and improving people's livelihoods.

Li said their opinions and suggestions are very helpful and the State Council will carefully study and incorporate these inputs.

He called for efforts to fully mobilize the enthusiasm and initiative of the whole society. He also said it is necessary to properly respond to new challenges brought by changes in the external environment, effectively solve prominent issues in economic operations, and consolidate and enhance the improving economic trend.

Li expressed hope that non-CPC political parties, the ACFIC and personages without party affiliation will continue to support the government's work as they have always done. He encouraged them to conduct in-depth research and actively offer advice on key issues in economic and social development.

The premier also called on them to further play their role as bridges, strengthening communication and liaison with various fields and industries.
