Details of stem cell donations released
The China Marrow Donor Program announced on Friday that, to date, it has facilitated 19,000 hematopoietic stem cell donations from unrelated donors since its launch in 2001. The CMDP, the world's fourth-largest bone marrow bank, also revealed that its registry of potential stem cell donors had approached nearly 3.49 million. Hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow are responsible for producing all types of blood cells. Donations from unrelated volunteers can be lifesaving for individuals battling blood disorders such as leukemia and sickle cell anemia. As of September, the CMDP has provided human leukocyte antigen matching services to over 120,000 patients with blood disorders.
Science forum opens in Yunnan province
The Tengchong Science Forum 2024 opened in Tengchong, Southwest China's Yunnan province on Friday. This year's forum, themed"Science Global Innovation and the Mission of Scientists — Empowering High-quality Development," is jointly organized by Yunnan provincial government and the China Association for Science and Technology. The forum includes an opening ceremony, a keynote forum, 11 sub-forums and 9 series of activities. In addition, the forum will also host a series of events, focusing on higher education, artificial intelligence, biodiversity and modern agriculture, and international intellectual property innovation cooperation.
