Iran president makes maiden foreign trip

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday for his first official foreign visit since taking office in July. In a statement from his media office, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani welcomed Pezeshkian and his delegation at Baghdad International Airport. The two leaders are set to discuss regional developments and the ongoing situation in Gaza. According to the statement, they will explore ways to enhance economic and security cooperation.

Death toll from Typhoon Yagi rises to at least 155

Vietnam's capital of Hanoi evacuated thousands of people living near the swollen Red River as its waters rose to a 20-year high, flooding streets days after Typhoon Yagi battered the country's north, killing at least 155 people. Asia's most powerful typhoon this year, Yagi brought gales and heavy rain as it moved westwards after landfall on Saturday, collapsing a bridge this week while it scythed through provinces along the Red River, the area's biggest.

Overtourism measures cut Mount Fuji crowds

Fewer climbers tackled Mount Fuji during this year's hiking season, preliminary figures show, after Japanese authorities introduced an entry fee and a daily cap on numbers to fight overtourism. Online reservations were also made this year by officials concerned about safety and environmental damage to the country's highest mountain. The number of climbers fell by 14 percent between early July, when the volcano's hiking trails opened for the summer, and early September, according to the environment ministry.
