Educators awarded before Teachers' Day

The celebration of the 40th Teachers' Day and the national commendation ceremony for advanced collectives and individuals in China's education system were held in Beijing on Sunday. A total of 585 institutions were conferred the title of "National Advanced Collective in the Education System", and 716 individuals were awarded the title of "National Model Teacher". The title of "National Excellent Teacher" was given to 895 individuals, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Ministry of Education.

5 dead in Shanghai after rollover crash

Five people have been confirmed dead after a container truck rolled over and crushed a sedan in Shanghai on Sunday, according to police in Pudong district. The accident took place at 10:18 am when the truck overturned onto a passing car while attempting to avoid an oncoming vehicle. All the casualties were in the crushed car and were later confirmed dead at the hospital. The drivers of both the truck and the vehicle it swerved to avoid have been detained by police, and the accident is under investigation.
