Ex-bank VP arrested on suspicion of graft
Li Jiping, a former vice-president of China Development Bank, has been arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Monday. The Henan Provincial People's Procuratorate ordered the arrest of Li, also a former member of the bank's Communist Party of China committee. The case was handed over to prosecutors for examination and prosecution following the conclusion of an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision, the top procuratorate said.
802m railway trips during summer rush
China handled 802 million railway passenger trips between July 1, the start of the summer travel rush, and Sunday, data from China State Railway Group showed on Monday. The company said the figure was up 6.2 percent year-on-year, and that the average daily number of railway passenger trips reached nearly 14.33 million. The demand for student travel during summer vacation, tourism and family visits had been strong, keeping railway passenger flows high, it said.
