Share - WeChat

Farmers in Shuicheng county of Liupanshui, Guizhou province, use their brushes to depict their lives, emotions and dreams in paintings to create a unique folk art form.
Shuicheng Peasant Paintings, originated in the 1980s, feature the combination of varied lines and the change of strong contrast of large blocks of colors.
The works use the primary expressive techniques of deformation, exaggeration, allegory and symbolism. The composition is mainly generalized and decorated, and the colors are juxtaposed and contrasted with pure colors without paying attention to the unity and harmony of the color tone.
