Govt faces $28b hole in public finances
Britain's new Finance Minister Rachel Reeves said on Monday the public finances face a projected overspend of 22 billion pounds ($28 billion) inherited from the previous Conservative administration and warned of "difficult decisions "ahead to cut spending or hike taxes. She said the state of the public finances was not sustainable, and posed a risk to economic stability if left unchecked.

Army kills 300, ends assault in Khan Younis
Gaza's civil defense agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal said on Tuesday that an Israeli operation in and around the territory's second city of Khan Younis killed about 300 people since it began last week. The Israeli military said it had completed the operation in the area of Khan Younis and had killed "over 150 terrorists".
