Special envoy to attend Pezeshkian inauguration
President Xi Jinping's Special Envoy Peng Qinghua will attend the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to be held in Teheran on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a news conference on Friday. Peng is also a vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. Iran looks forward to collaborating more extensively with Beijing, Pezeshkian said in an article published about two weeks ago. Pezeshkian was elected as president on July 6.
Timor-Leste leader to pay state visit
Timor-Leste's President Jose Ramos-Horta will pay a state visit to China from Sunday to Wednesday, the first tour to the country since taking office in 2022. It is also the first state visit to China by a Timor-Leste president since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2002. President Xi Jinping will hold a welcome ceremony and a welcome banquet for him and hold talks with him, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told a daily news briefing on Friday.

Landslide death toll could reach 500: UN
The death toll from landslides in a remote region of southern Ethiopia has risen to 257, the United Nations said on Thursday and the number could soar up to 500. OCHA said more than 15,000 people need to be evacuated because of the risk of further landslides.
