Fukushima plant starts 7th wastewater release
Japan on Friday started the seventh round of release of nuclear-contaminated wastewater from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean. Tokyo Electric Power Company, the plant's operator, started releasing the radioactive wastewater in the morning, the third round in fiscal 2024. Just like the previous rounds, about 7,800 metric tons of wastewater will be discharged from about a kilometer off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture via an underwater tunnel until July 16.

Rain causes roof collapse at New Delhi airport
A portion of a canopy at a departure terminal at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport collapsed early Friday as monsoon rains lashed the Indian capital, killing one person and injuring six others, officials said. The collapse occurred at Terminal 1, which is used for domestic operations at New Delhi's main airport. In addition to the roof, some support beams also collapsed, damaging cars in the pickup and drop-off area at the terminal, the Press Trust of India news agency said.

7 killed, 5 injured as train collides with bus
A train traveling from the Czech capital of Prague to the Hungarian capital of Budapest collided with a local bus in southern Slovakia on Thursday, leaving at least seven people dead and five injured, officials said. Some 200 people were aboard the Eurocity train when the accident took place near the town of Nove Zamky, police and the Slovak railway company ZSSK said. Video footage showed that the engine of the train was on fire, and railway officials said the bus was badly damaged in the crash and broken into two parts.
