Thriving wetland park nurtures wildlife

The Nanniwan National Wetland Park is located within the jurisdiction of Nanniwan township, Yan'an, Shaanxi province. The park consists of three categories of wetlands: Riverine wetlands, marsh wetlands and artificial wetlands, covering an area of about 1,044 hectares. It is a composite ecosystem of wetlands, paddy fields and forests, preserving a relatively intact wetland ecosystem that covers a variety of vegetation including terrestrial plants, wetland and aquatic plants, floating-leaved plants and submerged plants. Located in the arid and semi-arid areas of northern Shaanxi, such a complete wetland ecosystem is particularly valuable and serves as a demonstration case for soil and water conservation and wetland ecological restoration on the Loess Plateau.
As the eco-environment within the park improves, it now serves as an important habitat for many animals, with the number of precious bird species such as the egret, and heron witnessing a notable increase. National first-level protected animals like the oriental white stork and black Stork were also seen foraging at the park.
