As the mercury soared to 38 degrees Celsius in Anyang, Henan province in recent days, the meteorological authorities issued a red alert for high temperatures, which led to a challenge for the local power supply company.

Two experts, namely Wang Minghua and Xu Yazhou, from the State Grid Anyang Power Supply Company's transmission and inspection center, equipped with cutting-edge tools, including drones and binoculars, conducted inspections along high-voltage transmission lines.

Their vigilance aimed to swiftly identify potential safety hazards and safeguard the integrity of the vital power grid.

"We have adopted a meticulous approach combining manual inspections and drone technology to focus on scrutinizing the connection points of high-voltage cables and overhead lines, conducting infrared temperature assessments, and inspecting and mitigating fire risks like accumulated dry vegetation and debris near the transmission line corridors," said Xu.

The team from the center oversaw safety at 39 construction sites adjacent to high-voltage transmission line corridors and swiftly conducted temperature checks on 18 transmission lines in one day.

The heatwave triggered a surge in electricity demand for cooling purposes in residential areas and for agricultural irrigation needs in the Anyang region.

Responding to directives from the State Grid Henan Provincial Power Company, the State Grid Anyang Power Supply Company has been monitoring weather patterns and load fluctuations. This proactive stance includes optimizing and adjusting the primary distribution network's power outage operational blueprint, intensifying real-time surveillance of power grid operations and ensuring swift and effective responses to any anomalies or faults within the power grid infrastructure.

Furthermore, the marketing and service professionals of the power company relay daily weather forecast reminders via customer WeChat groups, promptly dispatch electrical safety advisories during adverse weather conditions such as scorching temperatures and strong winds, and equip customers with the necessary guidance for efficient responses to their requirements. Starting Saturday, the company has activated a comprehensive emergency mode across its network.
