China, US communicate on drug, law enforcement
In a video call on Thursday, Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong and United States Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas agreed to maintain communication on drug control and law enforcement cooperation.
Wang emphasized the importance of implementing the agreements reached by the two nations' leaders, urging cooperation built on mutual respect, management of differences and mutual benefit.
He highlighted key areas for collaboration, including drug control, repatriation of undocumented immigrants and combating transnational crime, and expressed the hope to achieve more practical results in these areas.
The Chinese official further stressed the need for the US to address China's concerns with "sincerity through concrete actions".
These concerns likely stem from the US designation of China as a "major drug source country" in a recent presidential memorandum. Wang had previously raised this issue during a February meeting with Mayorkas in Vienna, Austria.
The call follows the January inauguration of the China-US Counter-narcotics Working Group in Beijing. This development marked a positive step toward enhanced antidrug cooperation, with Wang advocating for collaboration based on equality, mutual benefit and addressing each other's concerns.
