The Research Center for Shiology at Renmin University of China held a ceremony to unveil the establishment of the "eat+food" issues center and hosted a conference to present the latest achievements in the field on Saturday.

Government officials, university leaders, and experts in the field of sustainable development attended the event.

Shiology focuses on the study of eating and eating-related issues. The center is tasked with three main objectives: extending individual health and lifespan, optimizing social order, and maintaining population continuity, said Liu Guangwei, the director of the center.

"The basis of Shiology is food demand and food acquisition," he said.

During the ceremony, Yin Chengjie, former deputy secretary of the Party group and vice-minister of agriculture, emphasized that the development of Shiology as a research area represents a significant innovation in China's science and education.

Yang Xiaobo, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that the establishment of a scientific system for "eat+food" issues and the founding of the new center demonstrates China's proactive efforts to address the global food crisis and is conducive to promoting more in-depth cooperation in addressing global food challenges.
