NANCHANG -- Li Dong, former deputy general manager of the CHN Energy Investment Group (CHN Energy), stood trial at the Intermediate People's Court of the city of Yichun in East China's Jiangxi province on Friday.

Li was charged with accepting money and valuables worth over 108 million yuan ($15.20 million), personally and through others, according to prosecutors.

He allegedly took advantage of his various positions in China Shenhua Energy Company Limited and its parent company, CHN Energy, between 1999 and 2023 to benefit organizations and individuals regarding product sales, coal procurement, business operations and adjustments of positions.

The prosecutors, the defendant, and his lawyers cross-examined the evidence and gave their respective accounts. In his final statement, Li pleaded guilty and expressed remorse.

The trial was attended by more than 30 people, including lawmakers, political advisors, and members of the public.

The verdict will be announced in due course.
