Seminar to delve into seed industry

China will accelerate the development of a modern seed industry to better ensure food security, according to the organizing committee of the 2024 China Seed Congress.

The event will take place in Sanya, Hainan province, from Sunday to Wednesday, and is expected to draw in 10 academicians and nearly 200 guests, including eight chief scientists of the national industrial technology system.

Over 2,000 representatives from national ministries and commissions, international organizations, embassies, and well-known domestic and international enterprises are invited.

It will feature keynote reports alongside 15 seminars, as well as an exhibition showcasing achievements in the seed industry, and field demonstrations of crop varieties.

It will unveil 15 reports delving into areas such as Nanfan Silicon Valley, the international seed industry, seed industry services, the new innovation system of the seed industry and collaboration between enterprises and science, biological breeding industrialization, the future of agricultural production and finance dialogue, supporting young scientists and entrepreneurs in the seed industry, the livestock and poultry industry, and the aquatic seed industry.

China Seed Congress is one of the nation's premier events in the industry, and offers a platform for scientists, entrepreneurs and experts from across the globe to exchange insights, foster discussions and promote collaboration, organizers said.

An indoor exhibition will showcase the construction of the Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, as well as the development of agricultural cultivation in Hainan. With more than 40 enterprises participating, including China National Seed Group and Longping High-tech, attendees will have the opportunity to witness the latest achievements and innovations in the industry.

Meanwhile, the exhibition in the Yazhou National Modern Agricultural (Seed Industry) Industrial Park will showcase about 2,322 crop varieties, from rice to corn, melons, vegetables and cereals from around the world.

Ma Wenquan, a technical expert from Hainan Nanfan Industry Development Co, along with his team is guaranteeing the survival and optimal display of the crops in the Yazhou National Modern Agricultural (Seed Industry) Industrial Park.

"We've left no stone unturned in preparing the soil for our plots, and utilizing cutting-edge microbial and compound inoculants from the China Agricultural University and the Institute of Cotton Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The survival rate of our seedlings now stands at 100 percent," he said.

"By facilitating exchanges and mutual learning among various enterprises in the field, we not only enhance our understanding of different technical achievements in variety and field planting, but also foster the promotion of these varieties," said Sheng Shoulong, manager of the base management department of the corporation.
