Strengthening the OSCE: Kazakhstan is ready to help solve global challenges

As part of a working visit to Austria, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu took part in a meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), expressing Kazakhstan’s willingness to facilitate the solution of complex issues facing the Organisation, DKNews.kz reports.

The parties discussed the global challenges, such as energy security, the food crisis and climate change. In this vein, Minister Nurtleu underlined the role of multilateral institutions in the light of unprecedented global upheavals and reiterated Kazakhstan’s intention to maintain the functionality of the Organization.

Speaking of the peace-loving aspirations of Kazakhstan, the Foreign Minister highlighted the commitment to diplomatic resolution of disputes through constructive, mutually respectful dialogue and interaction.

Noting the intensification of regional cooperation in Central Asia, the Minister emphasized the importance of collective interaction of the countries of the region on the world stage. In this context, he highlighted various initiatives, including the establishment of the UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty.

The Kazakh Foreign Minister emphasized the UN Regional Climate Summit in 2026 and expressed intention to host the Conference of the Parties (COP) in the near future. These initiatives demonstrate Kazakhstan’s proactive stance towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 and promoting the global transition to green and renewable energy.

Minister Nurtleu also emphasized the role of the Astana International Forum as an effective dialogue platform for the world community to discuss joint efforts against the backdrop of growing challenges to global security.

Highlighting the strategic geographical location of Kazakhstan, the Minister outlined the unique advantages of our country to connect distant markets and serve as a continental bridge along key transport corridors, as well as the OSCE’s potential in promoting interconnectivity. Thanks to collective action, traffic volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route have more than tripled over the past two years.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the strategic orientation of Kazakhstan towards achieving sustainable socio-political development, highlighting a set of measures aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, protecting human rights and developing civil society.

The participants expressed support for the political and socio-economic reforms of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev aimed at improving the quality of life and social well-being of citizens.

On the sidelines of the meeting of the Permanent Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu met with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid. The parties discussed the prospects for deepening cooperation between Kazakhstan and the OSCE, exchanging views on the upcoming visits of the Organisation’s senior officals to Kazakhstan, including for participating in the Astana International Forum.

At the end of the meeting, Secretary General Helga Schmid welcomed the reforms and transformations in Kazakhstan and thanked Murat Nurtleu for his informative and meaningful remarks at the meeting of the Permanent Council.
