Haley beats Trump in Washington, DC, primary
Former US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Sunday defeated former US president Donald Trump in the Republican presidential primary in Washington, DC, marking her first win in the party's nominating contest. Haley's victory came after Trump's recent sweep of the Republican contests. On Saturday, the former president won Missouri's and Idaho's Republican presidential caucus. Also on Saturday, he was awarded more delegates during a Republican convention in Michigan. Despite consecutive losses, Haley has said she would remain in the race at least through Super Tuesday races.

3 accused of raping foreign tourist held
Indian police have detained three men and were searching for four others accused of attacking two tourists and gang-raping the woman, Reuters quoted authorities and the couple as saying on Sunday. Police found the couple, who are Spanish citizens, around 11 pm on Friday on the roadside, looking like they had suffered a beating, Pitamber Singh Kherwar, superintendent of police in Dumka in eastern India, told reporters on Saturday. He did not give details on the crime or identify the victims, adding the two people told authorities "their modesty had been outraged", in an incident involving seven men.

Emergency declared after prison break
Haiti's government declared on Sunday a state of emergency and nighttime curfew in a bid to regain control of the country after a deadly gang assault on the capital's main prison that allowed thousands of inmates to escape. The curfew will be enforced from 6 pm to 5 am in the Ouest region, which includes the capital, through Wednesday, the government said in a statement, adding that both the curfew and the state of emergency can be extended. About a dozen people died as gang members attacked the National Penitentiary in Port-au-Prince overnight Saturday into Sunday, Agence France-Presse reported.

36 killed, 41 injured due to heavy rains
At least 36 people were killed and 41 others injured in separate incidents in Pakistan as heavy rains swept across the country from Feb 27 to March 3, Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority said. The deceased include 21 children, nine males and six females, it said in a situation report released on Sunday night. The northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province was the worst-hit region, where 27 people were killed, followed by the southwestern Balochistan Province with five deaths, while four deaths were reported in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, it added.
