Wang Huning, a senior official of the Communist Party of China, has urged firm efforts to resolutely combat separatist activities advocating so-called "Taiwan independence", curb external interference in the Taiwan question and advance the cause of national reunification.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks at a meeting on Taiwan affairs held in Beijing on Thursday and Friday.

Wang stressed resolutely implementing the Party's overall policy for resolving the Taiwan question in the new era and the decisions and plans made by the CPC Central Committee on work related to Taiwan.

He highlighted the efforts made in Taiwan-related work over the past year, leading to progress in cross-Strait relations and the consolidation and expansion of the international community's adherence to the one-China principle.

He urged for unity in thought and action in line with the Party leadership's analysis and judgment of the situation in the Taiwan Strait and its decisions on Taiwan-related work, in order to further grasp the initiative for achieving complete national reunification.

Noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and is a critical year for achieving the goals and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), Wang stressed the importance of fulfilling Taiwan-related work with a strong sense of responsibility and mission.

He called for adherence to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, and to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

Wang also emphasized the need to expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two sides, deepen cross-Strait integrated development, and promote the two sides to carry forward the heritage of Chinese culture, fostering a spiritual connection between compatriots.

He underscored the necessity to support patriotic forces advocating reunification in Taiwan, extensively unite Taiwan compatriots, and safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
