CPPCC member addresses fluctuating student numbers

Li Yongle, a member of the 14th Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made three proposals during the conference, including establishing a monitoring mechanism to understand and respond to changes in student enrollment. Li is also a physics teacher at the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China.

Li said there has been a significant change in enrollment numbers over the past few years. "The peak enrollment is at the primary school level, with a rapid transition to junior high and high school. Teaching resources may not be able to keep up. Soon after the enrollment peak, there is a sharp decrease in the number of students. Therefore, the question arises of how to address this fluctuation in student numbers."

In 2016, China allowed Chinese couples to have two children, resulting in an increase in newborn babies and student enrollment.

"My idea is to establish a monitoring mechanism to understand these changes and to explore teacher mobility in primary, junior and senior high schools," he added.

His other two proposals are related to reducing teacher workload and uniting internet influencers.
