Xi pledges deeper ties with Tunisia on 60th anniversary
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Tunisian President Kais Saied exchanged congratulations on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries on Wednesday, with both leaders pledging to further promote bilateral ties.
In the congratulatory message sent to Saied, Xi said China and Tunisia enjoy profound traditional friendship. Over the past 60 years, the relationship between the two countries has always developed healthily and steadily regardless of how the international situation evolves, he said.
In recent years, mutual political trust between the two countries has been increasingly consolidated, and fruitful results have been achieved in various fields of exchanges and cooperation, Xi said.
Xi recalled his meeting with Saied during the China-Arab States Summit in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh in December 2022, saying the consensus they reached has pointed the way for the development of China-Tunisia relations.
Noting that he attaches great importance to ties with Tunisia, Xi said he is willing to work with Saied to take the 60th anniversary as a new starting point, carry forward the traditional friendship, and promote the new and greater development of friendly cooperation between the two countries.
Saied said in his message that Tunisia and China have long-term friendship and fruitful cooperation. In recent years, both sides, adhering to common values, have constantly consolidated and expanded bilateral relations with increasingly close cooperation in international and regional affairs.
Tunisia is willing to work together with China to build a new type of partnership covering various fields with broad prospects, and elevate the bilateral relationship to a higher level, he said.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Tunisian Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani also exchanged congratulatory messages on the 60th anniversary on Wednesday. They vowed to expand friendly cooperation between the two countries to serve the common interests of the two peoples.
