A large group of migratory birds has been spotted recently at the Maluanwan Wetland in Xiamen, Fujian province. The flock includes black-faced spoonbills and white spoonbills, which are under first-class and second-class protection in China.

The flock of wild birds was seen flying into the region to stop, perch, and forage in the wetlands, forming a beautiful winter scene.

According to Chen Hao, deputy head of the Xiamen Bird Watching Society, the black-faced spoonbill, known as the "giant panda of birds", is one of the most endangered bird species in the world and is under first-class protection in China. The white spoonbill, with similar physical characteristics to the black-faced spoonbill, has a small area of its face with a distinctive white color. It is under national second-class protection.
