Seasoned diplomat named spokesman for China's top advisory body session
Veteran diplomat Liu Jieyi was appointed spokesman for the second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the nation's top political advisory body, according to the 12th Chairperson's Council meeting of the 14th CPPCC National Committee in Beijing on Wednesday.
Liu, a Beijing native born in 1957, brings extensive experience in foreign affairs and cross-Strait relations to the role. His career spans decades within the Chinese Communist Party and government, including stints as assistant foreign minister, vice-minister of the CPC's International Department, and head of both the Taiwan Work Office and Taiwan Affairs Office. Most recently, he served as vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee's Foreign Affairs Committee.
Liu's appointment follows Guo Weimin's role as spokesperson for the first session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.
The CPPCC, with its diverse membership of political figures, intellectuals, and representatives from various sectors, serves as a platform for consultation and dialogue on key issues.
